Following the X-rays, Dr. Joel Miller and his dental team will perform the following:

• Evaluation of gum disease: Your gums and the bone surrounding you teeth will be checked for any stage of periodontal disease.
• Tooth decay examination: Using specialized dental instruments, including the DIAGNOdent laser cavity detector, the surfaces of your teeth will be checked for tooth any decay.
• Oral cancer screening: Your gums, tongue, throat, lips and other oral tissues will be evaluated for potential signs of oral cancer.
• Assessment of current restorations: Your current dental work will be checked to make sure any dental crowns, fillings or other dental work is still properly protecting your teeth.

Professional Cleaning

A professional dental cleaning is recommended at least twice a year. Frequent cleanings eliminate built-up plaque and tartar allowing you to maintain optimum oral health. The cleanings at Aesthetic Dentistry of Valencia are performed by registered dental hygienists. Plaque, the sticky film that forms on your teeth from bacteria, will be removed to prevent periodontal disease. Tartar, which is hardened plaque that forms below your gum line, will also be eliminated to restore healthy gums. Regular professional cleanings will keep your teeth healthy and prevent advanced gum disease that requires more serious periodontal treatment. Importance of Home Care

Professional cleanings are important, but good oral care begins at home. By eating a healthy diet, brushing at least twice a day, and flossing daily, you can help keep your mouth in optimum health. Be sure to use a soft-bristle toothbrush and don’t forget about the bacteria on your tongue. Electric toothbrushes are also great for removing plaque. Floss your teeth in a “C” shape around the gum line to help remove bacteria and prevent periodontal disease. If you are unable to brush after a meal, rinse your mouth with water to help wash the sugars and other food particles off your teeth.
