Teeth Whitening

White teeth can make a significant difference in your smile, and your self confidence. If your teeth have been subjected to staining influences like tea, coffee, red wine, cola and tobacco, you may notice a dull, dark or yellowish appearance. These stubborn stains can make you look and feel older, but tooth whitening can effectively remove these discolorations and restore your youthful appearance.

A Number of Options

There are a variety of over-the-counter home whitening products on the market, from toothpastes to trays. These methods may work for brightening your smile or lightening it a shade or two, but if you want a dramatically whiter smile, Dr. Joel Miller offers several procedures that can give you the outcome you desire. We offer two in-office tooth whitening procedures: Zoom!® and BriteSmile, in addition to customized take-home trays.

Before deciding what tooth whitening procedure is right for you, Dr. Miller will complete a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy enough for whitening. He will also ask you about your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from tooth whitening, and which technique will best meet your needs.

If you are undergoing a cosmetic procedure such as porcelain veneers or dental bonding, a whitening procedure may be recommended to ensure the restoration or composite material matches your natural tooth. Or, if your teeth are in poor condition or you have some degree of periodontal disease, tooth whitening may not be advised until these problems are addressed.

Zoom!® Tooth Whitening

Zoom!® tooth whitening is a whitening treatment where a pH-balanced hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to your teeth and activated with a special low-heat light. This will penetrate your tooth enamel down to your dentin to remove deep stains. A fluoride treatment will be applied at the end of the hour-long procedure. The Zoom!® whitening system can brighten your smile between six to 10 shades, for a dramatic difference that can easily be touched-up with a take-home kit.

BriteSmile

Like the Zoom!® procedure, the BriteSmile whitening treatment uses a combination of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed lamp that accelerates the whitening process. The BriteSmile gel is a gentle 15% hydrogen peroxide, so patients experience very little if any tooth sensitivity. This revolutionary gel also contains glycerin and water to help prevent tooth dehydration. This procedure is safe and effective; studies have revealed no change in the structure of your teeth, no adverse impacts on dental work and no softening of tooth enamel.

Deep Bleaching

Deep bleaching is a longer process than one-hour power whitening treatments. Customized trays are created to fit your teeth like a glove. An initial in-office bleaching procedure is completed first, followed by using the trays at home for 14 days. Then a final in-office bleaching procedure is completed.  The peroxide bleaching gel sinks deeper into your teeth, making the whitening more effective.
